Peel Clothworkers' School

'Enjoyable Learning for Life'

PSHE & RSE at Peel Clothworkers' School

At Peel Clothworkers’ School, we believe that the development of the ‘whole child’ and the building of life skills is fundamental and cross-curricular links with personal, social, health and economic education, play an important part in our curriculum.

Purpose

PSHE education helps give children and young people the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to lead confident, healthy and independent lives in the future. At Peel Clothworkers’, we believe that educating children with knowledge and practical skills appropriate to their age, will allow them to reflect on their own values and attitudes, along with exploring the complex range of values and attitudes they will encounter in society. PSHE makes a significant contribution to children’s personal, moral, social, and cultural development, teaching them life-long knowledge and skills needed to be a successful citizen in the future.

Teaching and Learning

PSHE takes a whole school approach and will be taught in discrete lessons weekly by class teachers. It may also be taught using a cross-curricular approach - linking with other subjects. This ensures progression of skills, knowledge, and understanding across year groups.

Peel Clothworkers’ follow Kapow Primary’s PSHE scheme, which supports the PSHE association programme of study. The following topics will be taught across the three terms;

  • Family and relationships
  • Health and wellbeing
  • Safety and the changing body
  • Citizenship
  • Economic wellbeing
