This week, we celebrated 70 years since the opening of our school on Derby Road. Peel Clothworkers' School has occupied many sites over the centuries with the first school being provided in 1687 from the proceeds of the Phillip Christian bequest and being replaced by a second in 1843. The Christian Street school proved too small for the growing town and a new boys' school was opened in 1878, followed by a new mixed senior school in 1900. Our school today, built in 1953, still carries the name of Clothworkers', keeping the tradition alive.
To celebrate, we had a concert in the sun where each year group performed a song or dance from a decade within the last 70 years. We also had fun on bouncy castles and no party is complete without ice cream! We have also had tea towels made with drawings of all children across the school on to mark the 70 years. If you missed the pre-order for this, there are a handful available at the school office at a cost of £5 each.
Happy 70 years Clothworkers'!
