2M have been investigating Forces in Science this half term. The children have carried out two investigations so far. One investigating how the height of a ramp can affect how far a car travels. The children the discovered that the higher a ramp is the more force there is, meaning the car will travel further than when a ramp is smaller.
Our second investigation was looking at whether the material a ramp is made out of will change the speed and distance a car travels. The children made predictions, conducted their own investigation using a smooth ramp, a carpeted ramp and a sandpaper ramp. After recording their results the children found out that the cars went furthest and fastest when rolled down the smooth ramp. We then discussed friction caused by the carpeted ramp which was slowing the cars down and the children thought of other materials that might cause friction.
