'Enjoyable Learning for Life'

Over the last few weeks Reception, have enjoyed following a “Power of Reading” teaching sequence in our Literacy lessons, linked to the book “I Like Train” by Daisy Hirst. The Power of Reading is a learning and teaching approach which engages children in the literacy curriculum through the use of high-quality books and proven, research-based teaching approaches. Through this creative, immersive and engaging approach a love of literacy develops.

We explored a wide range of reading, mark-making and writing opportunities; both new and familiar songs and rhymes, as well as reading and writing across fiction and non-fiction. The children had the opportunity to respond imaginatively through the creative arts and imaginative playing the role play and small world areas to inspire the children’s own story making. They have developed their knowledge and understanding of the world around them through learning about transport in the past and present. The children have also discussed their own emotions, experiences, and interests in relation to those of the main character.
